There were about 90 hostages killed along with 50 Chechen terrorists. The rest of the approximately 750 hostages were freed. Many of the hostages are still in the hospital recovering from gas poisoning as a result of the gas pumped in during the raid by Russian special forces. Around 5:30 AM, Russian elite Spetsnaz special forces blew a hole in the wall, pumped in sleeping gas, and stormed the building. The Chechen terrorists seized the theater on October 23rd and demanded an end to war in Chechnya, which began in 1999.

Representatives of the 21 APEC member nations have been meeting at the Los Cobos resort on the Baja California peninsula. Yesterday, a large bubble tent where national leaders were to dine collapsed. No one was injured.
Today, President Bush met with the leaders of Japan and South Korea. The three issued a statement that called upon North Korea to dismantle its nuclear program. Most of the terrorists were killed as well as at least 90 of the hostages. The crisis, which began on October 23rd, ended today on October 26th, for Political Babylon. It was Day 299, for almost, but not quite. Russian forces withdrew from Chechnya after a 1994-96 war but they returned in 1999. Russia, the ally of Iraq, is opposing President Bush's war plans against Iraq.
