Two customers were unable to leave the store due to clouds of bees outside the store. The bees had made their hive in the store sign and began to swarm about 11:00 AM PST. The fire department fought them with foam for two hours before the activity abated to the extent that the customers could make a run for it.

After its mechanics rejected a proposed package of wage and benefit concessions yesterday, the airline may be unable to make a debt payment of $375 million, which is due in three days. Labor accounts for 38% of United's expenses. United stock fell today $1.18, or 32.51%. In spite of all the hoopla, the percentage drop is not all that significant when the stock was already near junk status.
United officials will again try to negotiate a deal with the International Association of Machinists, which represents United mechanics. This is obviously a case of the tale wagging the dog, but it is much more. Whatever United finally negotiates, the other airlines will have to match. They all face similar problems. United's problems could ripple the industry all the way to airline manufacturers.
