The Cedar Fire, the largest fire in San Diego County history west of San Diego has now burned 233,000 acres and destroyed 1,250 structures. Today firefighters made a heroic effort to defend the historic mining town of Julian. About 100 fire engines circled the city, but homes were still burning. A firefighter was killed and 3 injured. The Cedar Fire started on October 25th apparently from the signal fire of a 33-year old deer hunter, who was lost and panicked. Julian is at 33 N., for the purifying Judgment of the Holy Spirit.
In the San Bernardino mountains the weather elephant brought southwesterly winds of 25 mph that fanned 200-foot tall flames advancing on Lake Arrowhead. Firefighters struggled to defend the deserted town of 9,000. The fire, which began October 25th from an arsonist, has consumed 28,000 acres and 500 homes. The fire also forced the evacuation yesterday of Big Bear Lake and all residents of the San Bernardino mountains.

The ceremony commemorated the unveiling of their names carved in the national Space Mirror Memorial at Kennedy Space Center, Florida. The 42-by-50-foot memorial of mirror-finished granite, which was completed in 1991, is located at the Visitor's Center. The names of the seven Columbia astronauts brought the total number of names on the memorial to 24. The sky was dull and overcast with a huge weather elephant lurking over the state.
