Links: | CBS | CNN | AP | Benin |December 25 (Day 359, Simeon): A charter Boeing 727 passenger jet crashed on takeoff from Cotonou, Benin in west Africa. Most of those onboard were Lebanese headed to Beirut for the holidays. The tail of the plane it a building on takeoff and crashed in the bay. The casualty list is growing, but some were able to swim to safety. It was UTA Flight 141, where 41 is for happiness.
Benin is in the same region of Africa as Israel in Asia.
Links: | Ha'aretz | AP |Four Israelis were killed and at least 18 others were injured in a terrorist homicide bombing at a bus stop east of Tel Aviv during the rush hour. The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) claimed responsibility for the bombing.
Just before the bombing Israel killed the top commander of the Islamic Jihad group in Gaza, Mekled Hameid, 39, with missiles fired from a helicopter. He was planning a massive bombing. The number, 39, stands for the sin unto death.
